US Online Visa Scam: ESTA

Visitors to the USA may be aware that the USA changed its entry procedures for travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program and has introduced Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Online completion of ESTA became mandatory on January 12 2009 for all Visa Waiver Program travelers.

Unsurprisingly scammers are taking advantage of this convenience. An article in the UK Times newspaper reveals that some people are falling for a scam that entails them buying a guidebook to ESTA that they don’t need.

ESTA applications should be submitted as soon as travel arrangements are made. It is recommended that the application is submitted at least 72 hours before departure, however the system will accommodate last minute travel. Submit your ESTA application online.
